Chromogranin A(CgA,alsoknownasparathyroidsecretoryprotein1)isanacidicsecretoryproteinbelongingtothegraninfamily,foundinmanytypesofneuroendocrinetissues. Itisstoredinsecretoryvesicleswithothertypesofneurotransmittersandpeptidehormones. Graninsplayanimportantroleinthesortingandaggregationofsecretoryproductsinthetrans-golginetwork,andinthesubsequentformationofsecretorygranules.(1,2,3,4,5) CgAisco-secretedfromsympatheticnervesalongwiththecatecholamines,andithasbeenshowntobeusefulasabioMarkerofsympatheticnervousactivity.CgAproductionhasbeenfoundinhumansuBMAndibularsalivaglands,andCgAcanbemeasuredinsaliva.ThecorrelationbetweensalivaandserumCgAisnotwellunderstood.(5,6,7)AcircADIanrhythmforCgAinnormalsubjectshasbeenreported,withpeakvaluesduringthenightaround11:00andanadirinthemorningaround8:00.(8)
